Discovery and Excavation in Scotland (DES) is an annual publication of Archaeology Scotland that seeks to prove a comprehensive listing of summaries of the archaeological research being undertaken across Scotland during that year. DES records fieldwork by commercial units and archaeologists, local societies, university departments, community groups and independent archaeologists across Scotland. While recent years (typically around three) are only available to certain members of Archaeology Scotland, older annual publications reaching back to 1947 are available on Open Access.
DES is launched each year at the Archaeological Research in Progress conference organised by Archaeology Scotland and the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
