Research questions help us to assess what we would like to learn through archaeological and interdisciplinary research, as well as highlighting key research gaps to address in the future. The INCA Scot project has identified some research questions and goals for Contemporary Archaeologists in Scotland, including:
Research Questions
- To what extent the archaeology of the recent past is represented in the National Record of the Historic Environment?
- What distinguishes contemporary archaeology in Scotland from that in other countries (in the UK and elsewhere)?
- How can contemporary archaeology methods and approaches allow for a more just, and sustainable, society?
Goals for the INCA Scot project
- Encourage funders to make positive choices to support contemporary archaeology projects, based on their social and ethical credentials.
- To create a robust research framework for contemporary archaeology in Scotland, to help inform fair decision making by practitioners, researchers, and others within Scotland’s diverse communities.
- Raise the profile of Contemporary Archaeology in Scotland.
