In addition, consider the contribution that contemporary archaeology can make to society, through a research manifesto.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grant applications \/ project development \/ future directions (Day 2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of the disruption to travel, potential risk to life and limb caused by Storm Atiyah, this workshop was partially compromised and comprised a meeting between Gavin MacGregor, Antonia Thomas and Alex Hale on Monday 9<sup>th<\/sup> December, followed by a full day\u2019s workshop at the RSE on Tuesday 10<sup>th <\/sup>December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This workshop aimed to be the concluding part of the four RSE-funded workshops that would bring people together from a broad range of subjects (archaeology, art, anthropology), represented by students, established academics, curators, artists, heritage practitioners and enablers. Throughout all our workshops there has been a keen sense of our approaches being the beginnings. And this was evident at our final workshop, that we were taking early steps, rather than coming to clear cut conclusions. Perhaps this was as a result of there being a very clear, collaborative, participatory and action-orientated approach by all the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The format of the workshop was as follows:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Introductions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Everyone outlined their owns expectations for Scotland\u2019s contemporary archaeologies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Project update<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>workshops so far: sum up Glasgow\/Aberdeen\/Stromness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>expositions of a range of archaeology of Scotland\u2019s contemporary past<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Small group themed discussions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>nuclear biographies of maps, mapping, people and places<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>food stories, networks, heritages (Tunnocks tea cakes), social justice and food<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>approach to a manifesto for future research and actions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>archaeology futures and an additional framework on the contemporary archaeology for the Scottish Archaeological Research Framework (ScARF)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Presentations<\/strong> (Kenny Brophy and Alex Hale)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Field explorations (adapted due to weather conditions<\/strong>)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>create a zine of today\u2019s contemporary archaeology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Closing remarks and future directions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>develop a manifesto for Scotland\u2019s contemporary archaeologies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>address the gaps in ScARF and contribute<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>develop further funding for an expanded network, including international participants, through an RSE Research Network funding application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>consider actions for future activities: fieldtrips (virtual\/physical), COP26, climate change, landscape injustice, Black Lives Matter, pandemics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>develop a digital dissemination channel (?Vimeo\/YouTube)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>research and develop an ethics for contemporary archaeology practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>who have we not engaged with?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop, despite the high winds, disrupted travel and driving rain was attended by 23 committed participants.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":188,"template":"","categories":[],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-187","events","type-events","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/scarf.scot\/incascot\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/events\/187","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/scarf.scot\/incascot\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/events"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/scarf.scot\/incascot\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/events"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scarf.scot\/incascot\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/188"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/scarf.scot\/incascot\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=187"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scarf.scot\/incascot\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=187"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/scarf.scot\/incascot\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=187"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
